Credit Hours

Maine Tax Forum

SCORE Maine is the official presenter of two annual educational programs that provide tax preparers, enrolled agents, CPAs and legal professionals with updated information about annual changes in Maine and Federal tax laws. The Tax Practitioner Institute (TPI) and the Maine Tax Forum (MTF) both provide continuing education credits. CPE and CLE credits are available.

Given that tax practitioners prepare both Federal and State returns for clients, we believe that both the TPI agenda and the MTF agenda should include state of Maine tax updates and various Federal Tax topics. As Maine Tax updates do not qualify for IRS Continuing Education (CE) credit, the Maine sessions are offered as breakout sessions concurrent with a federal topic, allowing attendees to select the topic they prefer, while being aware of the impact on IRS CE credits earned.

CPAs, ENROLLED AGENTS, & TAX PREPARERS – The Maine Board of Accountancy does not pre-approve Continuing Education credits. Historically, the Maine Tax Forum sessions have been recognized.  16 sessions are offered this year. Click here to review the Board of Accountancy rules.

MTF-Sandra-testimonialATTORNEYS – The Maine Board of Overseers of the Bar is pending for the 2025 program for 14.8 CLE hours, including 2 CLE hours of Ethics.

On July 1, 2014, the IRS launched the new Annual Filing Season Program, (“AFSP”). This voluntary program applies to non-exempt tax preparers only.  When all requirements are met with regard to AFSP, a Record of Completion will be issued to the tax return preparer by the IRS.
